Stream of Consciousness

It's been a while!!!  :)

I went shopping today with my sister the fashionista because I need more professional clothes for my new position.  A school tshirt and jeans was perfectly acceptable attire at my old school, but this is a whole new ball game with people who don't know me and who will probably mistake me for a student.  We had fun going shopping and it was a very "What Not to Wear" experience--you know, that show on TLC?  Amy had to drag me away from the Crocs and Sketchers a few times. I did get a lot of nice clothes, including 2 dresses, 2 pairs of pants, 1 skirt, 2 pairs of shoes, 5 shirts, and 2 sweaters.  (That may seem like a LOT of clothes, and it is, but this is coming from the girl who still wears clothes from high school.  No lie.)  Matt is away this week, which means it's all me.  It's been harder this week than it was the last time he was gone.  I think it's because we don't have as much going on this week, so there's more time to sit around and whine (Caleb!).  I try to fill the days when he is gone so that it all goes by quicker, but that didn't happen this time.  We did have a lovely evening with my friend Jenn and her two girls the other night!  Abby is now off of the vent for 2 1/2 hours twice a day.  The hardest part about all of that is keeping her awake for 2 1/2 hours at a time!!  We're really working hard to get her on a schedule, but sometimes it's next to impossible to keep her from falling asleep.  Right now, she's off the vent from 7:30 a.m.-10:00 a.m. and she's exhausted by 10.  We taker her off from 5:30 p.m.-8:00 p.m. at night so that she can be with us for dinner, have a bath, and do trach care off of the vent.  That's not usually as hard for her, and I can usually keep her awake for another hour after that before she falls asleep. I just killed a big brown spider.  We've been having lots of them around here lately, and I'm not sure why.  We've never really had a spider issue but it seems like they're everywhere right now.  I killed it with one of my new shoes.  Don't tell my sister.  The heel was good for killing it though.  I'm really tired tonight.  I've got another hour to go before the nurse comes, and I'm trying to keep myself awake.  One of our day nurses just told us she can only do nights now, which makes us very sad.  She's a fantastic nurse and we really love how well she interacts with Abby. She really shares our philosophy on just about everything!  We understand her need to be with her family more, and we'll still have her a couple of nights a week.  We'll sure miss her during the day though!  You know the water bottles that I have for the nurses?  Yeah, well, I keep forgetting to give them to them!  I have given out two of the five, but have seen four of the five nurses!  Oopsie!  That's what I get for not putting them out in plain sight.  Matt is supposed to call me tonight sometime.  I really should have had a can of Coke today because I am hurtin'!  I saw one of my former teammates from work today.  It was good to see her and catch up on some of the latest gossip!  I'm soooo out of the loop nowadays!  I'm really going to miss the comradary of our school.  It truly is a family and it's hard to feel connected when you're between four different schools.  Are you part of Freecyle?  If you're not, you should be.  It's basically a local online yard sale...but everything is FREE!!  You go pick it up and it's yours!   I have gotten so much stuff over the years--clothes and toys, mainly.  I am picking up a robotic dinosaur tomorrow as a surprise for Caleb from a former parent of mine.  He's going to be so excited!  Hey, maybe he can use this as a basis for his cleaning robot he keeps talking about designing.  I have a long list of people interested in purchasing one when it is finished!  Alright, I doubt if anyone read all the way to the end of this.  Does anyone else's brain go like this, jumping from one thing to another?  No?  Just me?  Hmmm...

I read the whole post and you are not the only one who's mind runs helter skelter at times!!! As long as you're focused when you need to be it's fine and dandy. Have a restful night.

I think we are having a crazy amount of spiders too, but Dave doesn't agree. And I do think like that :)

Cerebrocostomandibular Syndrome

If you happen to pick up the latest Reader's Digest, there is an article in there about Piper Breinholt , a four year old with CCMS.  If you've been around here a while, you'll remember wayyyyyy back when we first received Abby's diagnosis that I was able to speak to Piper's mom, Reagan.  The article is more about their story and not as much about the ins and outs of CCMS, but I think it's probably enough to get some people googling it and I'm hoping a few will end up here. Every once in a while, I give a blog post the title of Cerebrocostomandibular Syndrome so that it would show up in Google.  My ever-present hope is that people will stumble across my blog and 1) be encouraged by the hope we have in Christ, 2) feel a connection with someone in a similar situation as them, or 3) get excited over the miracles that have been performed in Abby's life!!  (a combination of all 3 is great too!)  :)   Notice that it's not to get famous and it ...

Bath Time Photos!!

As promised, here are lots of photos of Abby's first bath. Caleb was supposed to be in bed, but the bathroom is right next to his room... "I'm not too sure about this..." Once she learned how to splash, she was all smiles! Her first good hair wash! Gotta protect the trach! She really liked getting water poured on her head.  It was cute! Smiley (and bubbly) for Daddy while he dried her off. All clean!!  (Note the Lysol wipes in that last picture.  They are NEVER far away!)

Imagination Movers Photo Recap

Seriously, The Imagination Movers were so much fun!  They played lots of their own music, with some classic rock mixed in for the adults.  There were also quite a few jokes and references to Baltimore, which was kind of fun.   The whole night centered around this robot named Rock-o-Matic, or "Rocko."   This is Mover Scott, and he wears Wobble Goggles that help him see new ideas.  Caleb and Abby have a pair of goggles too.  :) There are 4 main Movers that are part of the TV show, but they have 2 extra movers to play instruments and do back-up vocals in their live tour. Abby finished up her feed before the show started so that she would be free to dance! My dancing queen did NOT want to sit in my lap.  The row in front of us was empty, and that is where she stood almost the entire show--dancing the night away. My Imagination Movers  Caleb did his share of singing and dancing too.  He knows m...
