Stream of Consciousness

I haven't done one of these in forever, and probably some of you newerish readers don't even know what it is.  Basically, I write whatever I'm thinking without trying to formulate it into an eloquent statement. It will go from one thing to the next without warning.  Fun, right?!  (My sister loves these!) As a mom, it's hard when your kid feels like he doesn't fit in.  I see what a great kid he is, and I love his passion for knowledge.  But I also know he's pretty much on a different plane than most other kids his age.  He's had a lot of experiences that have shaped who he is, and a lot of those experiences aren't typical for a 7 year old.  I just hope that other kids can appreciate him and accept him for who he is.  My dog is lying on the couch.  Don't tell my husband.  She really loves the couch.  :)  I'm really ready for Spring Break.  Even though we had like a bagillion snow days, very few of them fell on days I was w...

Stream of Consciousness

It's been a while!!!  :) I went shopping today with my sister the fashionista because I need more professional clothes for my new position.  A school tshirt and jeans was perfectly acceptable attire at my old school, but this is a whole new ball game with people who don't know me and who will probably mistake me for a student.  We had fun going shopping and it was a very "What Not to Wear" experience--you know, that show on TLC?  Amy had to drag me away from the Crocs and Sketchers a few times. I did get a lot of nice clothes, including 2 dresses, 2 pairs of pants, 1 skirt, 2 pairs of shoes, 5 shirts, and 2 sweaters.  (That may seem like a LOT of clothes, and it is, but this is coming from the girl who still wears clothes from high school.  No lie.)  Matt is away this week, which means it's all me.  It's been harder this week than it was the last time he was gone.  I think it's because we don't have as much going on this week, so there's mo...

Stream of Consciousness

Oh, come on--you know you love it!  So, I'm really concerned about this weather we're supposed to be having on Monday night into Tuesday.  The words "wintery mix" do not belong anywhere near January 18th, because I'm not keen on anything interfering with our taking Abby home.  So I'm just praying that it won't.  And that the ventilator won't get wet on our very first trip outside with it ever.  The last thing we need is a shorted-out ventilator on our ride home.  No thank you!  I have a list of questions for Monday's meeting that I need to have answered.  They vary, but all are important. There is a Ravens party here for the game today, but I'm not going...I am not a football fan and I don't really feel like pizza.  I'm going to go scavenge for some food in a little while.  Today is my nephew Owen's 8th birthday and he does love football...a lot!  He's a Redskins fan though, so I don't think the Ravens game is going to int...

Stream of Consciousness

Oh, it's been a while since I've done this, and I am pretty sure the last time I did, about 5 people read my blog.  So, for those of you who are new to the neighborhood, "stream of consciousness" posts are just the written form of whatever is going on in my little brain!  Enjoy...or be confused... Abby now weighs 5 lbs, 1 oz and has officially hit the mark!  For your typical preemie, five pounds is kind of the magical number that points toward going home.  We know that this is just one of many, many pieces of the puzzle for us, but it's still a milestone nonetheless!  I gave her a bath today and she liked it even less than usual!  She threw quite a little hissy fit but settled down as soon as she was wrapped up and cozy again.  By now we know all of the nurses pretty well and don't have too many new ones anymore.  Today they only had 8 hour shifts because of the holiday, so we'll have 3 different nurses.  Her first two are wonderful, ...
