Life as a Leach

Pictures from the sleep study! Abby was really great about getting everything set up so she could "sleep," and she didn't fuss at all over all of the stuff on her. In fact, she even wanted to take pictures with my phone! The last step in the long set-up process was putting in a nasal cannula to measure CO2 levels as she slept.  Abby absolutely HATED this!  After Abby tore it off several times, I had to hold Abby down while the tech taped it to her face.  She was so mad at me! She eventually cried herself to sleep settled down and fell asleep.  She snored all night and coughed quite a bit.  I don't really know if the snoring is normal for her, because we all sleep with air purifiers that drown out that noise.  But we'll see what they say.  

Last night's sleep study went okay.  I didn't leave there fully confident that Abby did great, like I did the last time.  She had a few desats where her oxygen levels dropped a bit, and she was working pretty hard to breathe toward the end of the night.  But she made it through without having to stop the study, and the tech was quick to note that her oxygen level was at 100% even though her breathing was a bit labored.  That is a good sign. The other good news is that there was no sign of apnea, which hopefully means that she will not have to have the jaw surgery.  Our ENT told us that if she had apnea episodes, it would be because the airway was too small and she would need the surgery to open it up.  I'm hoping that no apnea = no surgery.   So now it's just waiting...again.  The doctor is supposed to call me with the official results and tell me what our next steps will be, but I wasn't given a timeline on that phone call.  I'm hop...

Abby seems to be adjusting to her new room quite well!  She's sleeping through the night and is taking much better naps now.  I think having a consistent (and comfy!) bed for all sleeping is important.  Before, the nurses would pretty much let her fall asleep wherever...on the floor, in the bouncy seat, in the saucer, in the jumperoo... She seems quite content in here!  The vent tubes go through the slats in the crib so that the water drains properly.  Did I mention that she's up to 3 1/2 hours 2x a day now OFF of the vent?! My sleeping beauty :)
