Awesome Day!

Two fabulous things happened today.  I must share!!

First, and absolutely the most important:

We have a home date!!!!
Now, I know that this is subject to change and I shouldn't get too excited about it...but it is incredibly encouraging to me to actually have a date.  It's no longer "Mid January."  It's now January 18th!!!

There's a lot that has to happen between now and then, but we're getting there!!  The next two weeks (TWO WEEKS!!!!) will be a whirlwind.  I apologize now if my posts become a little less frequent.

Also, Abby got to test out her new speaking valve today!  That was the exciting happening I alluded to yesterday.  It's kind of difficult because she has to work a whole lot harder with it, so we're starting with very short trials.  However, Abby's 45 seconds pleasantly surprised the speech-language pathologist who was a bit skeptical of her ability to use it at all given her weak lungs.  She commented many times on how well she did.

Yes, I know 45 seconds is not very long at all.  But for a tiny baby with chronic lung disease and a whole mess of other issues, it's a century!  Baby steps, baby steps.

The sad part is that the girl didn't make a darn sound the entire time!  We did 3 trials throughout the day (each one about 45 seconds) and she looked at me like she had no idea what to do with herself.  We'll definitely have a conversation before tomorrow's trials so that she's aware of her job in all of this.  I kept telling her that now was her chance to talk!

Funny story about that...when I said that, the SLP looked at me and said quite cautiously, well, Abby probably won't make much more than a coo or a gurgle at this point.  She won't really be talking yet.

Ha!  Yes, I realize that.  Thanks for the reminder though.

Ohhhhhhhhh...AND I found out that there are a couple of nurses interested in working for us!  We'll be interviewing them over the next week and hopefully finding a few good matches.

Fabulous news all around, doncha think?

It's so wonderful to hear some good news. Now, praying that the nurses have been chosen just for you! Can't wait for her to hear her voice!

Many continued prayers sent your way-especially for all your needs to be met-keep your eyes on God & He will continue to lead all of you through this. You will be the best advocate for Abby-you just wait & see. After awhile you will look back on this time & realize just how very much you know in taking care of her. Loving you all from afar, Sandy Murphy

I dunno Julie, Jett is almost speaking in sentences...you need a new SLP who knows abby should do more than coo at this point in her life!

Cerebrocostomandibular Syndrome

If you happen to pick up the latest Reader's Digest, there is an article in there about Piper Breinholt , a four year old with CCMS.  If you've been around here a while, you'll remember wayyyyyy back when we first received Abby's diagnosis that I was able to speak to Piper's mom, Reagan.  The article is more about their story and not as much about the ins and outs of CCMS, but I think it's probably enough to get some people googling it and I'm hoping a few will end up here. Every once in a while, I give a blog post the title of Cerebrocostomandibular Syndrome so that it would show up in Google.  My ever-present hope is that people will stumble across my blog and 1) be encouraged by the hope we have in Christ, 2) feel a connection with someone in a similar situation as them, or 3) get excited over the miracles that have been performed in Abby's life!!  (a combination of all 3 is great too!)  :)   Notice that it's not to get famous and it never wi

Bath Time Photos!!

As promised, here are lots of photos of Abby's first bath. Caleb was supposed to be in bed, but the bathroom is right next to his room... "I'm not too sure about this..." Once she learned how to splash, she was all smiles! Her first good hair wash! Gotta protect the trach! She really liked getting water poured on her head.  It was cute! Smiley (and bubbly) for Daddy while he dried her off. All clean!!  (Note the Lysol wipes in that last picture.  They are NEVER far away!)

Imagination Movers Photo Recap

Seriously, The Imagination Movers were so much fun!  They played lots of their own music, with some classic rock mixed in for the adults.  There were also quite a few jokes and references to Baltimore, which was kind of fun.   The whole night centered around this robot named Rock-o-Matic, or "Rocko."   This is Mover Scott, and he wears Wobble Goggles that help him see new ideas.  Caleb and Abby have a pair of goggles too.  :) There are 4 main Movers that are part of the TV show, but they have 2 extra movers to play instruments and do back-up vocals in their live tour. Abby finished up her feed before the show started so that she would be free to dance! My dancing queen did NOT want to sit in my lap.  The row in front of us was empty, and that is where she stood almost the entire show--dancing the night away. My Imagination Movers  Caleb did his share of singing and dancing too.  He knows most of the words to the songs, so
