My Girl is a Miracle

Dr. S, the chief of orthopaedic surgery at JH, is a world-renowned spinal surgeon.  He is one of the best in the world and is very highly respected in the spinal world.  We knew he was who we wanted to see to find out more about Abby's spine.

In Abby's initial spinal xrays, she had scoliosis and kyphosis (a curve and a hunchback).  We were looking at several spinal surgeries involving metal rods and spinal fusion.  We were bracing ourselves for the announcement of the first of several surgeries at today's appointment.

So imagine our surprise when Dr. S said that she no longer has scoliosis and that her kyphosis is within the normal limits!!  NO spinal surgeries are needed!!  We don't even need to follow-up unless our pediatrician sees something concerning.

AMAZING.

We were in shock...still are, I think!  I'm processing everything slowly because for five months we just assumed that metal rods were in our future.  After today, it doesn't seem like that's the case!!  We can safely look for Abby to walk, run, skip, jump, and roll around much like a typical child!

Very few people saw the NICU xrays that we saw, but those that did can attest to the miracle.  It is a miracle that Abby's spine is perfectly fine now, because it wasn't.  You could see and feel the hump when she was on her stomach, and we could run our fingers up her spine and feel the curve about halfway up.  It wasn't normal...and now it is!!

Whether or not you agree, we believe that God has performed a miracle in Abby and that He is using her to show others how awesome He is.  So we're going to do our part and tell everyone about this miracle!!  :)

We're on cloud nine tonight with this awesome news.  I hope it brightened your day too!

Your mother and I saw those original x-rays and we can attest that God has performed a miracle in little Abby. I am confident that this is just one of many that the Lord has in store for her as a part of the testimony He is building for her. Praise The Lord!

I think those x-rays are forever etched in my memory. This is truly a miracle. The thought of Abby being able to run with her cousins is such a gift from God.

What a blessing. It is wonderful to see how God answers prayers and uses a little girl to show us His miracles. Thank you for sharing this wonderful news. I will pass it on to the Mom's group I am in, as we are always praying for Abby.

I can't tell how overwhelmed I am with gratitude to the Lord who is the greatest! I asked my Mom, a wonderful prayer warrior, to pray for Abby at the time of her birth. When I told her the miracle news, she said" I told you the Lord has put His hand on that child!" Her message to you is to keep praising Him and trusting Him to finish what He has started ! P.T.L.

Cerebrocostomandibular Syndrome

If you happen to pick up the latest Reader's Digest, there is an article in there about Piper Breinholt , a four year old with CCMS.  If you've been around here a while, you'll remember wayyyyyy back when we first received Abby's diagnosis that I was able to speak to Piper's mom, Reagan.  The article is more about their story and not as much about the ins and outs of CCMS, but I think it's probably enough to get some people googling it and I'm hoping a few will end up here. Every once in a while, I give a blog post the title of Cerebrocostomandibular Syndrome so that it would show up in Google.  My ever-present hope is that people will stumble across my blog and 1) be encouraged by the hope we have in Christ, 2) feel a connection with someone in a similar situation as them, or 3) get excited over the miracles that have been performed in Abby's life!!  (a combination of all 3 is great too!)  :)   Notice that it's not to get famous and it never wi

The Potty Man

Caleb LOVES to go potty! I have never heard a potty training story like this one....Caleb tells us when he needs to go, we take his diaper off, and he goes! Now, is it perfect? No, not at all! We aren't trying to potty train at at all, but we figure every time he goes is one less diaper we have to change! The only time we consistantly put him on the potty is when we give him a bath (he always pees in the tub, so we know he needs to go!) He almost always goes on the potty now instead of the tub though. When he's not "really" going potty, he's pretending to go potty! He's such a funny kid!

Lego Party: Favors

I'm a little slow in posting the Lego Party pictures, but I think I have a few excuses I could use.  At any rate, I wanted to share what I did for the party!  It will take a few posts, so stay with me.  I'll start with how I did the favors. These are the goody bags I made.  I just bought solid colored gift bags and matched scrapbook paper to each bag.  Then I punched circles and attached them with the 3D foam tape so that the circles were raised. I used the keychain (explained below) as a name tag on the outside. These are Duplo blocks.  I put a round magnet on the back and...voila!  A magnet!  (note:  hot glue doesn't work so well...I ended up reglueing them with my apoxy because the magnets fell off.) I made crayons using Lego man crayons.  Yes, I know this guy has lost half of his leg.  The others were already packaged and I didn't want to open one up just to get a picture.  I used a Lego mold  to make the crayons.  Caleb put small pieces of crayon in each m
