We took Abby to the boardwalk for the first time last week. She loved it! Contrary to this picture (which was taken with her shade down, so the sun was in her eyes), she stayed awake the entire time and liked looking around. I think the noise of the water intrigued her.
The water was rough that day, so Matt and Caleb had a good time watching the water crash against the rocks and splash them.
My mom claws did have to come out once when a man stopped to see her...holding a lit cigarette. At first I thought he was just going to pause and keep on going after commenting on how sweet she was, so I wasn't going to say anything. Then, he stopped, stooped down, and asked why she was on a ventilator. As kindly but firmly as I could, I told him that I was really sorry but I couldn't have any smoking around her. The man gave me a dirty look and huffed off, shooting additional dirty looks at me when we saw them later on.
Now let's think about this. My child is on a ventilator. She obviously has trouble breathing! Why would you think it would be a good idea to bring a cigarette up next to her, blowing the smoke into her face?? Not to mention that we also have the oxygen tank and lit cigarettes are a safety hazard! I'm not real sure why he was mad at me...so I'm sorry that I offended him, but I have to protect my girl!
Other than that little issue, we had a good time. We also went to the farmer's market on Friday, which is now open until October. If you have never been there, it's a fun thing to do on a Friday night with the family. They have lots of vendors who sell fresh fruits, veggies, and baked goods, a Ritas stand, a classic cars show, and a cool ship playset on the beach. You're bound to see people you know, because it's the place to be! :)
