We're in Niagara Falls and loving it! Our visit here started out a bit rough (read: a grumpy daddy) and climaxed with a crying mommy, but all is forgiven and we have had a great time so far!
We visited the falls last night and it was ridiculously, uncomfortably crowded. We vowed to avoid that time of day again and decided to be at the Maid of the Mist when it opened at 9:00 this morning. It was soooo worth it!! (Plus, when you have a 3 year old as an alarm clock, 9:00 isn't that early to be out!) There was no line and we seriously just walked right onto the boat. If you go to Niagara, I strongly suggest you do this too!
My day got even brighter when a kind tour director gave us 2 extra tickets to the Maid of the Mist! Caleb didn't need a ticket, so we didn't pay a dime for the ride! Someone else gave us 3 tickets to see an illusionist that cost $34 a piece! I love Canadians!
The ride itself wasn't as bumpy as I thought it would be. I got a spot by the railing and held on, but I didn't feel concerned or anything. Caleb was just the right height to peer out between the wall and the railing without getting in anyone's way. I didn't want Matt holding him during the ride, so this gave Caleb a good view too.
I wasn't about to risk getting my good camera wet (been there, done that!) so we bought a disposable waterproof camera. Caleb could not understand why he couldn't see the pictures after they were taken! Hopefully, we got some good ones.
He must be having a good time because he's been asleep for 2 1/2 hours this afternoon and didn't move a muscle when we put him to bed last night. I've learned that tiring out small children on vacation is the best way to get them to bed without drama! :)
I will probably post more in the next day or two. Tomorrow we plan to be on the NY side most of the day, but Wednesday is more relaxed.

The American Falls
The first look at the falls...mesmerizing!
Sorry this is sideways...I tried to remove it and can't for some reason. He just kept saying, "They're gigantic!" |
