GLEEK

I just ordered this as a belated Christmas present!  (Matt got me a couple of shirts that were too small, so we returned them and I ordered this instead)  I simply can't wait until April when this little diddy returns.  Until then, I simply must listen to my cds on repeat...and now wear my shirt!

The Fondue Was Our Guide

So, about a month ago, we were supposed to head to The Melting Pot for my birthday. Back up:  you need to understand how much I LOVE The Melting Pot.  It is seriously the best restaurant ever, and we don't eat all day in preparation for the deliciousness that awaits us.

Anyway, back to a month ago...well, Caleb got sick and we didn't go.  It was sad and disappointing, but I had to take care of my pitiful boy.  So, we looked at the calendar and the next available day was January 30th.  (sad, isn't it??)

Fast forward to this week when the weather reports started focusing in on a major winter storm heading our way...up from the south!  We MD folks understand that the phrase up from the south means we are going to get hit hard.  Of course, this couldn't happen during the week--noooooo!  Weekend snow does me no good, and I was especially concerned that the white stuff was going to snuff out our Melting Pot plans yet again.

Saturday morning, Matt checked the accumulation totals (increased from 1-3 inches to 8-10!!) and drove around a bit to see how the roads were.  After a bit of hemming and hawing, we decided to just go for it and turn around if it was too bad.  We dropped Caleb off at my sister's and headed north.  The further north we got, the better the roads were, actually.  It took us about an hour and 45 minutes to get there, which really isn't that much longer than normal.

So was it worth it?  OH YEAH!  The fondue did not disappoint, and I managed to eat every one of my shrimp and scallops!!  (not to mention the cheese appetizer, salad, and s'more chocolate for dessert!)

We finished the night off with a movie at home and then slept in this morning before picking Caleb up.  It was grand!

Jesus Took It All

Oh, didn't you hear?  There isn't a time-out spot in our house anymore.  Jesus took it away.

So THAT'S what salvation means...that you don't have to go to time-out anymore.  I feel so enlightened!

Reasons I am Excited to go to 5th Grade

Yep, it's true.  I'm heading on up to 5th grade next year as a result of a miriad of changes at good ole SLES.  However, I'm actually really looking forward to it.  Here's why!

*  It took me 3 years to graduate 3rd grade and 4 years to graduate 4th.  I've finally passed onto 5th!  :)

*  I student taught in 5th grade and really loved the age.  I'm excited to bring back some of the things I have had stashed away for the last 7 years.

*  I get to teach honors reading again!

*  If ever I had to loop with a group, THIS would be it!  I absolutely love this class!  They are incredible!

*  The prospect of departmentalizing is very appealing to me.  Not having to teach all of the subjects is always a plus.

*  My friend from 3rd grade is moving up with me and I am stoked to have the opportunity to work with her again.  She is a very positive, upbeat, fun teacher and I learned a lot from her when I first started out.

*  I think this will be a fun new challenge for me with a strong 5th grade team!  We shall see.

The only downside I see:  the possibility of having to teach FAMILY LIFE!  Hormonal 11 year olds are bad enough, but knowledgeable hormonal 11 year olds are the worst!!  UGH...

Not Me! Monday!

*  My dog does not drop food all over the kitchen floor when she eats.  She is a dainty eater who certainly picks up after herself.  We don't find ourselves picking slobbery dog food off of our socks as we walk through the kitchen.  I certainly don't bribe Caleb with cookies to pick the dog food up off of the floor every day!  That would be ridiculous.  Why not just vacuum it up?  The answer to that certainly wouldn't be that I don't want to waste all of that dog food....

*  I did not spend the better part of Saturday reconnecting with my long lost laptop after missing it for a month.  After getting a laptop dock that gives me a USB port (for the first time in 2 1/2 years!), I didn't begin to lament that I couldn't find my USB cord to connect my camera to my laptop.  I didn't frantically search the house top to bottom before declaring it lost forever.  I wasn't so anxious to begin loading pictures again that I bought another cord on Ebay, only to find the cord in the corner of the office downstairs later on that day.  Not me!

*  I didn't tear up for various reasons 5 times today.  I am in complete control of my emotions.  I am!  Seriously!

Grace, Please!

We've been talking a lot about grace with Caleb recently and trying to use the word so that he begins to gain an understanding of it.  Sometimes (definitely not all of the time!) when he gets in trouble and deserves a spanking, we tell him that we are going to grant him a little grace like God gives to us and not give him what he deserves.  (Of course, we also say that if we have to speak to him again, he will get a spanking!)

This morning, Caleb asked me if he could move the blankets off of the chair so that he could sit in it.  I told him no, they needed to stay in the chair.  I was just getting into the shower and warned him that if I came out of the shower and saw the blankets on the floor, he would get a spanking.

Naturally, the blankets were on the floor and he was sitting on the chair when I came out of the shower!  I asked him if he was supposed to push the blankets off and he said no.  I asked him what I said would happen if he pushed the blankets off and he said he would get a spanking.  I called him over to receive his punishment and  he asked very sweetly, "Momma, can I please have some grace?"

This was one of those moments when I had to turn my head so that he couldn't see me smile. At least something is getting through!

Caleb and Emma's Trip to Lancaster

Here are a few highlights from our trip to Lancaster!

Caleb took Emma for a ride on his "tractor!"

Then he took her on a ride on the bulldozer!

Caleb rode with Daddy on the Frog Hopper--they went super high!

Emma loved the cows!

This wasn't even posed!  She looks like a little jailbird!

There was a great puppetry/ventriliquism show at Dutch Wonderland.  It was very cute!

Steven and Emma

This is Lucy Long-Tongue, the (much bigger) calf that Caleb bottle-fed over the summer.  We remembered her number and went to visit her in the pen with the big cows!  When Caleb started talking to her, she stuck her tongue out.  He exclaimed, "She remembers me!"  :)

Caleb's Three Year Old Photos

We got Caleb's Three Year Old Photos taken at Clix (LOVE THEM!!!) and bought the rights, so I can show them to you!

Color-Touched Picture

Another Color-Touch with a last-minute impromptu pose that turned out to be my favorite!

I love his sly smile!

This is my mom's antique butter churn!

I think he looks so old here!

This was caught by accident.  He was actually zooming his train around and around at the end of the shoot and the photographer happened to catch this face!  Love it!

A Toothy Grin That Turned Upside Down

UPDATE:
Several of my wonderful students brought in some Chipmunk toys for Caleb yesterday.  We now have Simon (2, actually!), Theodore, and Brittany.  Does he like them?  Let's just say I had to limit him to choosing just one to sleep with last night! :)

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Yesterday, Caleb visited the dentist for the very first time. The dentist warned me that sometimes all they do is take the kids for a ride on the chair the first time. Not my boy! Nope, not only did he let them check his teeth, but they also polished them and applied fluoride! I was so proud of him.

His reward (in addition to picking out of the prize bin at the dentist's office) was the go to McDonald's to get a Happy Meal...but what he really wanted was the chipmunk that was IN the Happy Meal!! He talked about it all day and shared it with several people at the dentist.

We go through the drive through, he notices the chipmunk advertisement, he freaks out again over the excitement of it all, we get our food, we park, I pull out the toy...and it's a dinosaur. THEY DON'T HAVE ANYMORE CHIPMUNKS!!! Surprisingly, he didn't cry...but he did look really pitiful! When I apologized to him (although it obviously wasn't my fault!), he dejectedly replied, "That's okay, Mommy. I'm just sad." :( Sooooooo, if anyone has a chipmunk they got from a Happy Meal that they would like to give to a sad three year old, I will gladly take it off your hands!! :)

You Did It!

Upon coming home from school on Monday:

Caleb:  Momma, you did it!

Me:  Did what, Caleb?

Caleb:  You came home...all by yourself!!!

Yay, me!  :)

Computers, Carnivals, Cotton Candy, and Caleb

My computer has been on its death bed for a few weeks, resulting in not being able to check timecards for Stacked Systems or blog.  We have internet access through our iPods, but it is really REALLY difficult to write a substantial blog using a tiny touch screen!  My dad has ordered a new part for our laptop, so hopefully it will be back in business soon!

Saturday was Caleb's birthday and we had a carnival party.  It was so fun!  We had a ball pit and played ring toss, and he had a circus train cake and snow cones for dessert.  Lots of sugar and 14 hyper children, but I think everyone had a blast.

Somehow (I still don't quite know how) I miscounted the number of containers of cotton candy and ended up one short...which means the birthday boy didn't get one.  I didn't think he noticed, but while I was at a baby shower yesterday, Matt said that Caleb realized he didn't have one and demanded that they go to those kids houses and get his cotton candy back!  (They had a nice talk about being an indian giver!)

I can't believe Caleb is 3. I remember January 9, 2007 so vividly, almost like it is a video that I have watched repeatedly!  I remember Becky laying her head on my belly all afternoon as if she could sense what was happening.  I remember calmly watching TV for most of the day while I dialated (unbeknownst to me!) from 2-7 cm.  I remember calling Matt at work and mentioning that he might want to think about heading home.  I remember eating 3 granola bars in the car because I knew I wouldn't be able to eat anything else.  I remember being terrified that they were going to send me home and being ecstatic to discover that I was 7 cm (but still confirmed that they were going to keep me!!)  I remember trying to play Scrabble but losing to Matt because I was too distracted...possibly the only time he won!  :)  I remember them breaking my water to get me to 10 cm and then beginning to push.  I distinctly remember Matt popping my hip out of socket by the way he held my leg and pushed back on it during my first push and yelling that it hurts only to have the nurse reply that it was going to hurt but that I needed to keep going....they all got a good laugh at my expense when they realized what had actually happened!  I remember pushing, and pushing, and pushing, and pushing...for 2 hours and 41 minutes.  I remember that first cry and the amazement of it and and feeling like I was having an out-of-body experience.  I remember when Dr. Strider laid Caleb on my stomach and seeing him for the first time.  It was incredible.  *sigh*

Alright, enough sappiness.  I love my little boy more than anything.  He is my world.  Happy (belated because I couldn't blog on your actual birthday) birthday, Caleb-Boy!

PS:  I will post pictures as soon as I get my laptop back.  I have lots from my camera and some professional shots to show you!!  :)
